You made certain good points there. I did a search on the subject and found a good number of folks will go along with with your blog.

I have now made the pumpkin dip, and it was well received by the family! We don't have any sorts of canned pumpkin or sweet potato puree available here so I just cooked up some butternut pumpkin first and used that. I would probably add more cayenne pepper next time as I held back a bit because the girls don't appreciate too much of a kick yet.

I have never made a pumpkin or sweet potato pie as they just aren't part of our food culture here, but I have written down your Nanna's sweet potato pie from November 2005 to try! Hope the celebrations went well.

Deirdre, I am so glad to hear that the bean dip worked out for you. And, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that you survived being an academic and a mom! Thanks for the encouragement! Oh, and maybe sweet potato or a winter squash puree would be a good substitution?

Lydia, You should tell us about the sweet potato dip -- it sounds like it might be a good option for folks who can't get pumpkin. Happy Thanksgiving to you too, by the way!

This is a bit like a sweet potato dip I make -- though mine has more of a Cheese Whiz color! It's a great use for the canned pumpkin in my pantry, too. Happy first Thanksgiving with your little one -- even if she doesn't remember the event, she will remember that your kitchen is a warm and welcoming place.

I like the sound of that pumpkin dip, though we don't have canned pumpkin here in Australia! I made your pesto cannellini bean dip and it was a hit. I love to read about your baby's milestones - it reminds me of when my two girls were little. Eighteen years ago I was exactly where you are now - a college academic with a baby girl! Believe me, the days and months and years will pass so quickly and you will be so glad of what you have written down about this wonderful time! She is beautiful. All the best for your Thanksgiving celebrations.

Oh, right, Tanna, thanks for reminding me. The origins of this recipe are a bit hazy, but here's what I know: a couple of years ago, I *think* I found a recipe for a pumpkin and cream cheese dip on a food blog called Poco-Cocoa. I didn't write anything down at the time, and so modified it over the course of making it countless times since. When I decided to post about it, I tried to look up the original recipe, but the blog has since closed. If it was Poco-Cocoa where I first spied the recipe, my thanks to Crystal, just in case she's reading, as it was her post that inspired my take on the dip, no matter how far I strayed from the source.

The rest of you sweet people are oh so kind to say nice things about the leopard --- thanks for indulging me in my new mom-ness :)
