[...] Perhaps it’s because peaches remind me so much of summer — after mornings at the pool, Mom would often drive us over to Landrum’s produce stand to buy the freshest ones our small town had to offer. It could also be that a version of peaches and cream has been my standard birthday dessert for as many years as I can remember. Whatever the reason, my passion for peaches has not wavered over the years, and one of the most welcome signs of summer here in Louisiana for me are the peaches that appear on Mr. Buddy Miller’s table at our Saturday farmer’s market.
I haven't been able to get online for a while. What a treat to read about our "family deck weekend".
I saw your friend's recipe for a Mojito. The New York version must be different than the California Mojito. While your Dad and I were in Napa Valley I had a very refreshing drink. It was made with mint and club soda, simple syrup and Saki.
Can't wait to see youall next week.
Love,
Mom

well you know when I was living with the fam awhile ago I volunteered to make this dessert for Lizzards birthday. I was in Jackson and between Grandmother, MF and Aunt Prissy there were 3 very different renditions of this peach treat. Mine came out with a great crust, a very liquid peachy, jellooee, APRICOT JAM thing and some very good peaches. oh yeah and the cool whip. tasted pretty good but we could have used some straws...the deck looks fabulous. I go to NY Saturday for the food show...wish you were coming you would be in heaven!!! love you aunt em

I love your family. I wish I could toodle around your backyard with you. Some big pots of mums would be nice this fall on that deck. Love you aunt prissy

It sounds like you have a lovely and adorable family. Just like you! And this dessert is classic! Every once and awhile we have to go back to those family favourites ... I'm so glad you got to spend your birthday with the people you love most!

So what's with you food-blogger types? From what I've seen ya'll are, as a group, about the nicest damn people on earth, with great families. Nice to be reminded there are a lot of good people out there. Another commonality: childhood treats involving Cool Whip. Could there be a connection?

What a great family you have! I love the porch and swing. Looks like a great place to enjoy the nice weather, when it's not too hot! I actually went to elementary school with your brother (?) David until he moved to Hillcrest. Also, my mom grew up with your Aunt Prissy and was good friends with her. BTW, I love your weekly menus. My mom uses that, and I'm sure I will too when I have someone other than myself to cook for!
